Ethics Conference. This year’s Ethics Conference explores the topic of “Healthcare Reform: Nanny State or Responsible Stewardship?” The conference focuses on the sometimes conflicting values of individual autonomy and governmental responsibility for public health, particularly as it relates to the new health care law. HealthFest, An Event for All Ages. James M. Bennett High School, Salisbury. 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Free. Peninsula Regional Medical Center and the Wicomico County Board of Education offer a showcase of healthy exhibits and free health screenings to the public Registration is not required. Free blood glucose and cholesterol screenings will require a 12-hour fast. HealthFest will also Mega Heart, the world’s largest, inflatable walk-through heart exhibit; child safety seat checks; a fun walk for all ages; a free rock climbing wall; fire engine and ambulance tours; a health corner for kids; demonstrations of Zumba, chair aerobics and healthy cooking; and a hands-on exhibit of the daVinci Surgical System Robot. Nearly 50 additional exhibitors and vendors will also join HealthFest with valuable information on their services. Whether you, a family member or friend has diabetes, this support group, featuring presentations on how to manage and live with diabetes, can help. Grandparenting Class. Avery W. Hall Educational Center Auditorium, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury; 1-4 p.m. $20. Grandparents can play an important role in supporting a new family. Learn how to combine the value of life experience with updated information on supporting new parents. This evidence-based class will help grandparents learn what is new about infant safety, car seats and how to form a great relationship with a new grandchild. Friends and Family CPR Class. 4 to 7 p.m. $40. Avery W. Hall Educational Center, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. This 3-hour non-certification course is designed for anyone who wants to learn CPR rescue skills but does not require a CPR course completion card. The annual Real Women health symposium will include speakers discussing genetics, women’s heart health, diabetes and evidence-based practice versus conventional wisdom. The goal is to deepen the understanding of the connection of inherent beauty to health and wellbeing and enable women to live healthy productive lives for the benefit of all. ‘Living With Diabetes — Making It a Bit Easier.’ 6-8 p.m. Avery W. Hall Educational Center, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. PRMC and its Diabetes Education Program invite anyone interested in learning more about living with diabetes to attend a free education event featuring an educational presentation and exhibits from companies involved in diabetes care and services. Regina Kundell, CRNP, BC-ADM, of Peninsula Regional Endocrinology in Salisbury will discuss how to live well while tackling the day to day challenges of diabetes.
